Handing a session off
The note one session writes for the next — what it says, how to ask for it, when Semantix writes it on its own, and what the next chat does with it.
The walker files facts. A hand-off is different: it's the note you'd leave on the desk for whoever sits down next — what this conversation was about, what's mid-way, what's owed. First person, written by your Primary seat model for its own next instance, one per conversation, rewritten each time it runs.
The next new chat in the project reads it on its first turn, so it doesn't start cold.
Asking for one#
Two doors, same thing:
- Type
/handoffin the composer and pick it. It's a built-in command, not a markdown file, and it attaches nothing to a message. - Hover a conversation in the Chat history list and press the check-mark button — Hand off — write the note the next session starts from. This works on a closed conversation too; you don't have to open it.
It runs in the background. The transcript says Handing off… You can close this chat or carry on working — it finishes on its own, and then Session 41 handed off — this session is saved for next time. If it can't run, it says why: memory is off, the conversation was never saved, nothing was said yet, or there's no seat.
Note
Handing off a session you've already handed off, with nothing said since, is refused — this session was ended 2h ago and nothing has been said since. Talk in it again and the note is rewritten to cover the new turns; that's the point of it being one note per conversation rather than a stack.
When Semantix does it for you#
A conversation that goes quiet is swept and handed off on its own, so most sessions get a note whether you asked or not. The sweep is silent unless something lands or something breaks — a timer that declines its own errand every few minutes is not news. The history row shows the result either way.
The history row#
Each conversation in Chat history shows a small check when it has been handed off. Hover it for Handed off 2h ago. If you talked after the note was written, the check fades and the tooltip adds but you talked after — hand it off again; the button is offered again for exactly those rows. While a hand-off is running, the check pulses.
What the next session gets#
On its first message, a new chat is handed the most recent note in full, framed: This is session 42. The latest note is from session 41, whose work ended Tue, 22/09/2026, 02:26 — 57m ago. Behind it ride the outlines of a few earlier sessions — session number, title, when it ended, how many turns, whether it was closed on purpose or went idle, and how long after the one before — and a plain statement of any sessions in the run that left no note. The model reads the shape of the recent past and the text of only the note that's actually current.
The note stays in front of the model for the whole session; it's a document on the table, not a one-off reading. A conversation you reopen is not a new session and gets no note — it has its own history.
What it needs#
- Semantix Memory on and Local only off, in Settings → Privacy. The note is stored on the Semantix server with the project.
- A Primary or Secondary seat under Settings → Studio. The writer runs on that model, the same way the walker does, and refuses with the same words when the seat is empty or holds a model Semantix can't call itself.
